Yes. This is not a drill. We’re really talking about Advent. Ridiculous, right? We’re not even out of August. Halloween is still months away. It’s far too early to be discussing something that begins with ‘C’ and ends in ‘mas’.
Except we both know that’s not true. Yes, there's still 17 weeks until Father Christmas shifts down our chimneys. But plenty of people out there are already getting ahead in their preparations. Try booking a table at fine establishments offering festive menus and see how many are already gone. The hot ticket items are already getting masses of orders. Asda became the first supermarket to announce its Christmas range for 2021 a fortnight ago.
The most wonderful time of year has a habit of sneaking up on us. Bam. One minute you’re watching the leaves fall and changing your clock, the next you’re frantically going from door to door in town wondering why you left gift-giving until the 22 December again.
